Cover Reveals for Jay Crownover's Better When He's Bad….this is one of my must reads for 2014!

If I ever get to meet Jay Crownover, I will definitely have a fangirl moment with her.  I don't just enjoy her books, I read each of them a few times.  I even go back and look at some of my favorite parts again and again.  Her books are some of the first that I recommend to people when asked what they should read. Rule, Jet, Rome and Nash (in April) are tremendously fun bad boys and their stories have permanently etched into my mind.  I can only imagine what Bax is going to be like….

Image Map There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter. Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way. Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.
Bax terrifies her, but it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize that some boys are just better when they’re bad.

I just finished White Hot Kiss and was once again blown away by Jennifer Armentrout.  White Hot Kiss is the first book in the Dark Elements Series.  I can't wait for Stone Cold Touch to come out!  The ending of White Hot Kiss left me wanting so much more so I am glad that I can take part in revealing the cover!  I am trying to decide how I feel about Layla with Zayne on the cover and no Roth.  I am think I am Team Roth but you never know….Ms. Armentrout may change my mind in this book.  Can't wait to see!

STONE COLD TOUCH Synopsis:

Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden.  Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

"Constantly entertaining...the narrative sizzles with as much tension as romance."
Kirkus Reviews on White Hot Kiss

WHITE HOT KISS synopsis:
One kiss could be the last.
Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Book Review: Crashed by K. Bromberg

Crashed (The Driven Trilogy, #3)Crashed by K. Bromberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

At 12:30 last night, I was finishing another book and realized that Crashed had downloaded to my Kindle. I started it and kept on going. I was eagerly anticipating the final installment to this trilogy. It was one of my most anticipated books of 2014. To say that Colton and Rylee were stuck in my head is a gross understatement. Crashed provides an emotional ending to a fabulous series and I couldn't be happier with it.

The ending of Fueled with the chanting of "Spiderman. Batman. Superman. Ironman," truly gutted me. I was left in a raw state worried that it was going to be a long time before Crashed was out. Crashed picks up where Fueled left off and Rylee and Colton once again have to navigate through some ridiculously difficult times. The crash is just the start of things going from bad to worse for the pair. I don't want to give too much away but the heartache feels like it will never end for awhile. There are moments when I want to throttle Colton, I laugh at him and then I turn around and feel absolutely heartbroken for him.

Colton's baggage is still front and center in this book and I love the journey he goes on to overcome his past. Some of my favorite parts are when his father confronts him after all these years and doesn't hold back in telling Colton what he needs to hear. I also adore Becks and when he rips into Colton to try to get him to understand the crossroads he is standing at is hands down one of my favorite scenes.

"She's worth the fight, dude. Worth every goddamn fear eating at you. Every piece of it, Colton - A to motherfucking Z." Time to deal with your past, because Rylee, she's your goddamn future. It's fight or flight time, man. Let's just hope you're the man I've always thought you were."

Rylee was exactly what I needed in this book. After everything she has been through, she was steadfast, loyal, committed and refused to give up. Colton needed that especially in this book. It was fantastic to see her really get her footing in their relationship and feel solid in knowing how Colton felt about her after the wild ride in the first two books. She wants Colton, bent and broken, and never falters in her commitment. It was beautiful to read.

The ending and epilogues were perfect. Some of lines that were written between Colton and Rylee at the end sum up their relationship beautifully. Not to sound like a sappy romantic but these two deserved their HEA. It was awesome to read where they all stand so many years later and it put one big smile on my face. K. Bromberg congrats on a fantastic conclusion to the Driven Trilogy. You outdid yourself! Looking forward to Becks and Haddie!

Book Review: HM Ward's Stripped (Jonathan Ferro's story)

Stripped (Stripped, #1)Stripped by H.M. Ward
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well it is hard to say who my favorite Ferro brother is but I have to say that I am more than intrigued with Jonathan. Johnathan, in Damaged 2, seemed like the stereotypical youngest child. He is a flirt, playboy and seems like he has no cares in the word. In Stripped, we see that he is much more complicated. He has been screwed over by numerous women in his life: his mom, his father's mistress and the girl he loves. He is anything but a happy go with the flow rich kid.

The story in Stripped begins as the Ferro boys are getting ready for Peter's Bachelor Party. Jon has hired a slew of strippers and doesn't seem to understand that Peter wants nothing to do with this type of bachelor party. As the party is beginning and Jon is trying to get rid of the strippers, he suddenly realizes that one of the girls is from his past…a very painful past. Cassie, one of the strippers at the party, is as stunned as Jon to see him again.

The story goes back and forth between the past and present day. It show us how Jon met Cassie (one of the strippers) and explains their complicated relationship. Cassie has been sent to visit her cousin in Mississippi. While there she meets Jon Ferro and everyone knows who he and his family is because they are constantly int he news. His playboy lifestyle has landed him in trouble with his mother again and she always sends him down to stay with his uncle. Cassie meets Jonathan and there is instant chemistry between them. It slips out that Cassie is a virgin and Jon is floored. He is of course intrigued but over the summer, he realizes that he actually likes Cassie in a much deeper way. Jon shares his true self with Cassie and even shares some of his deepest secrets.

Unfortunately, the best intentions leave the two at odds. A huge misunderstanding tears the two apart. We then flash forward (3 years) back to the present day. After the party, Jon can't stand the idea of Cassie working at strip club or understand how she has ended up with this life. He still feels betrayed by her from so many years before but he obviously still cares for her deeply. He makes a move in an effort to save her but it could destroy him in the process. There is a bit of a cliffhanger and it made me eager for Stripped 2.

I also loved seeing more of Sean, Peter, Bryan and Trystan. The last scene with Avery and Sidney is a killer too! I love the interconnecting stories! Stripped is a must read if you love the Ferro brothers! Thank goodness HM Ward puts these books out so quickly. It is hard to wait!

Book Review: Take a Chance by Abbi Glines

Take a Chance (Chances, #1; Rosemary Beach, #6)Take a Chance by Abbi Glines
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Take a Chance is part of Abbi Gline's Rosemary Beach series. This is book 6. I highly recommend you read the other books first although it is not absolutely necessary. Grant and most of the other characters show up quite a bit in the other books and I really enjoy having all the back story before reading farther in the series.

I was all over the place emotionally with this book. I couldn't decide whether to love or hate Grant. Based off the other books, I felt like he was the quintessential good guy. The one who always swooped in and saved everyone. I never enjoyed him with Nan and that part of the story really bothered me. If I am honest, I hate Nan and I wasn't sure if I could handle anyone that tolerated Nan and Grant definitely did more than just tolerate her in this book. You do come to understand why Grant ran to Nan but it still left a bad taste in my mouth.

Harlow's initial reaction seemed spot on since Nan clearly hates her. It would be hard to like someone that clearly chose Nan's company. I enjoyed the development of their relationship because it seemed to progress in a normal healthy way. I did not enjoy watching Grant just up and run after things became serious. Harlow handled it with dignity and grace although she was secretly dying on the inside. I understood Grant's fears and could see why he wanted to keep his distance. It was nice to see him work his way past them. I enjoyed Harlow being shy and quiet but underneath she was not a pushover for anyone including Grant. She never had tantrums or caused a scene which in the case with Grant was highly effective.

I absolutely loved Harlow's brother Mace in this book. I heard he is getting his own book or two. That is fantastic! He was the consummate protective big brother and I loved how he said exactly what he thought. One of the best lines of the whole book was from Mace:

"My advice is to stay the fuck away from [Grant]. Guys that weak aren't the ones worth sticking around for. When a guy gets the attention of someone like you, he's supposed to understand his luck. Not toss it away. He doesn't get it. Find a man that understands your worth."

Mac really wasn't off on giving his advice. This was the first book that I can remember where I wasn't exactly on the side of the supposed hero. For half of the book, I didn't think Grant deserved Harlow. He really needed to deal with his issues before he could truly appreciate Harlow. Unfortunately, Grant messes up more than any other hero in a book. It was hard to forgive him as a reader. Grant's number one fear is losing someone he loves after opening himself up to them. This makes the end of the book (huge cliffhanger) even more painful to read. I finished the last page and was super annoyed that it was finished. I wanted answers and my HEA.

I think it is important to point out some of the side stories and how great they were in this book. We get a whole new perspective on Harlow's dad Kiro. We all thought he was nothing more than a shallow rock star who enjoyed women, booze and drugs. What unfolds in this book for Kiro was really a pleasure to read and heartbreaking. I love when an otherwise seemingly shallow second string character is given real depth. His story actually had me swallowing hard a time or two.

Just like all of Abbi Glines' books, this one is hard to put down. I find myself ripping through these books in one night. Take a Chance sucked me and left me wanting more of Grant, Harlow, Rosemary Beach and the whole cast of characters.
